“Small Grant Awarded to the 27th Cayo Santa Elena Jaguars Scout Group”

The Belize Scout Foundation is pleased to announce its participation in the Investiture and Crossing Over Ceremony of the 27th Cayo Santa Elena Jaguar Scouts, which took place on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

The event was attended by the following representatives from the Belize Scout Foundation: Sir Colville N. Young GCMG, Patron of the Foundation, Dr. Rene R. Villanueva, Chairman of the Foundation, and Hilberto B. Riverol, Executive Director. Also present from the Scout Association were: Mr. Wilfredo Majano, Chief Scout, Mr. Fernando Oliva, President, and Ricardo Alcoser, Senior Field Executive and acting National Scout Executive.

Engaging in regular mountain climbing can help develop essential skills such as concentration, determination, physical fitness, a connection with nature, and problem-solving, among other benefits. The potential goals for scouts are truly limitless.

During the ceremony, Dr. Villanueva took the opportunity to present the Venture Scout Unit with the $1,000 grant to support their upcoming mountain climbing expedition in Guatemala.

In delivering the grant to the Venture Scout Unit, Dr. Villanueva expressed the Foundation’s pleasure in being able to support them and looks forward to future collaborations.

“Empowering New Leaders in Scouting”

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, leaders from across the nation converged at the Sir Colville N. Young Building in Belize City for an impactful training day.

Participating in an information course marks an important first step toward becoming an adult leader in Scouting. This course is essential for anyone aspiring to lead in the vibrant Scout groups within their communities.

The one-day training encompassed a variety of valuable sessions, including the history of Scouting (both locally and internationally), program structure, youth program development, capacity building, and a crucial segment titled “Safe from Harm.” This latter session is focused on fostering an environment where all members, especially children and young people, feel safe and supported at every moment.

Under the guidance of National Training Commissioner Lucia Cituk, along with a dedicated team of trainers, the course was well-structured to provide the knowledge and tools necessary for effective leadership in Scouting.

The Belize Scout Foundation commends the Scout Association for this significant initiative that strengthens the foundation of adult volunteers who lead and inspire Scout groups in their communities. With each training session, we are building a brighter future for our youth and ensuring a safe and enriching experience in Scouting.
