Sir Colville N. Young Museum Inventory

The “Sir Colville N. Young Building” home of Scouting in Belize once completed and fully functional will be a major landmark in Belize City.  You know why?  Because the building will host the Sir Colville N. Young Museum where hundreds of personal gifts presented to Sir Colville during his tenure as Governor-General will be permanently displayed.

Today, March 16, 2021 was the start of the historical move towards establishing this museum with Museum Curator Ilona Smiling, Hilberto B. Riverol and Alejandro Tovar taking inventory and documenting each piece of memorabilia donated by Sir Colville for the museum.

More than 160 pieces of artwork gifted to Sir Colville were photographed by Alejandro Tovar and named and numbered by Ms. Smiling and Riverol.

The process will take some time to be completed but at the end of the day, a beautiful display of memorabilia will be made available to the public and tourist alike for viewing.

The Museum will be managed by the Belize Scout Foundation.

BSF Chairman Visits Construction Site

Dr. Rene Villanueva, Chairman of the Belize Scout Foundation (BSF) accompanied by Mr. Francis Woods, Chairman of the SAB Building Sub-Committee, and Mr. Hilberto B. Riverol. SAB’s Executive Director visited the construction site of the Sir Colville N. Young Building on March 5, 2021 to assess the construction of the building under construction.  Joining the tour was Mr. Rene Villanueva Jr., General Manager for LOVE FM.

Mr. Woods gave the visiting team a tour of the building under construction while updating them on work completed and highlighting the pending work which has slowed down as the building nears completion.

Dr. Villanueva is pleased with the advancement of the work and is hopeful that The Scout Association of Belize (SAB) agree with the Memorandum of Understanding between the BSF and SAB before the handing over of the building.

The MOU aims to adequately put safeguards in place for securing and protecting the assets (land and building) for perpetuity and to prevent the deterioration of the value of the building that will carry Governor-General, Sir Colville N. Young’s name.
