Did you know that 9 years ago on June 4, 2012 celebrations were held in the UK and Commonwealth countries around the world in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee?  Over 2000 beacons shone all over the world, making this the largest beacon-lighting in history.

In Belize, 60 Scouts did a torch run ending at the Governor-General’s field in Belmopan.  A grand ceremony was held with speeches from the Actg. Governor-General Mr. Carlos Perdomo, British High Commissioner Mr. Patrick Ashworth, Mayor of Belmopan Mr. Simeon Lopez, and Chief Scout Dr. Erasmo Franklin.  At exactly 10:00 p.m. Mr. Perdomo lit the beacon.  Following the lighting was a 60-gun salute and a spectacular fireworks display.
