Construction of the Sir Colville & Lady Young Memorial

Construction of the Sir Colville & Lady Young Memorial

As the Sir Colville N. Young building approaches its final stage of completion, construction on the Sir Colville & Lady Young Memorial started on June 17, 2021.

At a meeting of the executive of the BSF held on April 27, 2021 the design for the memorial was approved which was followed by another meeting with Sir Colville to get his approval.  Work on the memorial is now ongoing and the completion date is scheduled for July 20, 2021 by which time it is expected that The Scout Association will already be installed in their new offices.

The inauguration of the building is tentatively scheduled for the month of September this year and it is hoped that COVID-19 restrictions would be lifted by then, enabling the Belize Scout Foundation and The Scout Association to jointly plan an attractive ceremony befitting the occasion.

The design of the memorial was done pro-bono by Architect Hilberto B. Riverol Jr.

The Executive Board of the BSF met at the residence of the Chairman of the BSF on Saturday May 29, 2021.  Patron Sir Colville Young also attended the meeting.

A report on the Sir Colville N. Young Building was presented by Chairman of the Building Sub-Committee Mr. Francis Woods.  He informed that the roof and floor of the building will be painted with an epoxy floor paint.  Also, a few windows are still missing inside the building but these will be installed shortly.  The elevator will be ordered and work on the memorial will commence once the proposed design is approved.  He also reported that the Sir Colville museum is in motion and the appointed curator will shortly submit her proposal on the total cost to set up the museum.

A PowerPoint presentation of the design and layout of the museum was presented by Executive Director Hilberto B. Riverol, followed by a similar presentation of the design and layout of the memorial, which were both approved.

On the subject of a date to gift the building to The Scout Association, the Executive Board has tentatively set the month of September 2021.  Efforts will be made to make it an official part of the September celebrations.  The Scout Association will be invited to move into the building and start setting up their offices early in the month of July.
