Scouts begin training for steel pan music

The Scout Association through its National Scout Executive, Mr. Roberto Lopez has informed us that at a meeting of the National Scout Committee it was decided that they will not host a gala this year. (no reason given), also, that practice takes place between the hours of 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. and not at 2:00 p.m. as we reported.

Scouts begin training for steel pan music

On August 3, 2022, the Belize Scout Foundation presented a set of steel pans to the Scout Association for their music program. The pans are gifts from the Government and People of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The Foundation on March 29, 2021, at the recommendation of its Patron, Sir Colville N. Young, submitted a grant request to the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to purchase steel pan instruments for the Scouts of Belize.

Today, we are pleased that the Scouts have initiated practice every Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Sir Colville N. Young building.  We wish them success in the weeks and months ahead as they prepare to make their first appearance at the annual President’s ball held annually in the month of December.

Finance Committee Meeting

Directors of the Belize Scout Foundation met on Monday, October 24, 2022. This was the Foundation’s third meeting this year. The meeting had several items of importance on the agenda including the approval of the current budget, funding requests, and pending matters related to the Sir Colville N. Young building that was gifted to the Scout Association and the Sir Colville. N. Young Museum and Memorial managed by the Foundation.

Mr. Roberto Harrison chaired the meeting in the absence of Chairman Dr. Rene Villanueva, who had undergone surgery the same morning of the meeting. Harrison asked that we keep the chairman in our prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

The meeting was held in the Dibary restaurant meeting room. Our heartfelt thanks to Director Walther Campos for allowing the use of his facilities for the meeting.
