Belize Scout Foundation (BSF) donates $6,000.00 to The Scout Association of Belize

Tuesday August 4, 2020

The BSF on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, awarded a grant of $6,000.00 to The Scout Association of Belize (SAB) to assist the Association with their operational expenses for the next six months (July to December).

At its meeting of the Foundation of June 27, 2020, Mr. Lopez, National Executive of the Association reported to the Board of Directors that the Association was facing financial difficulties since Government has slashed their monthly subvention of $6,000.00 by 40% and their Sustaining Membership Enrollment program was not performing well due to COVID-19.  Salaries have been cut by 50% and other measures have been put in place to enable SAB to continue its operations. The BSF Directors without hesitation approved the grant in order that the SAB operates without hinderance for the next six months.

Mr. Julian Castillo, Treasurer of the BSF, made the presentation to Roberto Lopez at the Scout office located at the old Center for Employment Training building on St. Thomas Street.  Chairman of the BSF Dr. Rene Villanueva and Executive Director, Hilberto B.  Riverol were present to witness the handing over of the check.

Just a few weeks ago, the BSF donated a lawnmower to the SAB which again was urgently needed to assist with the work of keeping Camp Oakley, the national training and camping grounds of the SAB, clean.
