“The Belize Scout Foundation Strengthens Security at Camp Oakley with Donation of Barbed Wire”
Warrant Officer Class 1, Wilfredo Majano (OOSM), a dedicated lifelong Scout from Orange Walk Town, currently holds the prestigious position of Force Sergeant Major within the Belize Defence Force. Graduating from the United States Sergeant Major Academy on June 20, 2020, Majano has a proven track record of commitment to Scouting, having advanced through the ranks from Cub Scout to Scout and then to Venture Scout before joining the Belize Defence Force. On February 5, 2024, he was rightfully appointed Chief Scout by the Governor-General, Her Excellency, Dame Froyla Tzalam.
As Chief Scout, Majano has taken the initiative to revitalize Camp Oakley, the national training and camping grounds of the Scout Association that the previous administration had shamefully neglected.
Today, Camp Oakley is on the path to restoration, regaining its former vitality and currently serving as a suitable venue for camping and training activities. There is still considerable work to be done, but Majano’s unwavering vision is to have the camp fully refurbished by this summer, ready to host summer camps once again.
The Belize Scout Foundation stands firmly behind Majano’s vision and recently donated a lawnmower to facilitate the maintenance of the grounds. On this occasion, the Chairman of the Scout Foundation, Dr. Rene R. Villanueva, presented four rolls of barbed wire to Majano, ensuring the perimeter of Camp Oakley is secure ahead of the upcoming camps.
In announcing this donation, Villanueva emphasized that the Directors of the Foundation are proud to support the revitalization efforts at Camp Oakley and are eager to contribute towards the goal of preparing the grounds for this year’s summer camps. He commended Majano for his exceptional commitment and relentless dedication to the refurbishment of Camp Oakley.
Additionally, Majano is actively working to tile the entire Bliss building and is seeking additional support to complete the project before summer. Dr. Villanueva immediately responded with a $200.00 donation to this important initiative.
The Belize Scout Foundation proudly congratulates Chief Scout Majano for his tireless dedication to advancing the development of Scouting.
