Patrick Thompson and his involvement in Scouting

Patrick Thompson was born on June 8, 1974

Patrick joined the 4th Belize Wesley Scout Group in 1985 as a Cub Scout at age 11.  His Cub Scout Leader was Sandra Reyes.  Shirley Henry, Sandra’s sister was the assistant Cub Scout leader.

One year after joining the Cub Scouts and reaching the age of 12, he moved to the Scout Troop under the leadership of William Faux who was assisted by Randolph Johnson, a teacher at Wesley School.

As a member of his patrol, Patrick showed great leadership and commitment in attending meetings and participating in Scouting events. As a result, he was swiftly promoted to Assistant Patrol Leader and not long after to Patrol Leader.  In the following months, Patrick participated in Patrol Leaders training and attended national camp and other national events proving his leadership skills that soon led to his appointment as Senior Patrol Leader.

When Patrick was old enough to be appointed a Scout Leader, William Faux recommended he take on the Leadership of the 4th Belize Wesley Scout Troop. At this same time, Randolph Johnson was taking on a National appointment with the Scout Association.  William Faux had also taken up an appointment at the national level with the Scout Association.

Patrick left the 4th Belize Wesley Scout Troop some years later and started the 24th Belize St. John Vianney Scout Troop, which was closer to where he lived and his high school.

During his involvement in Scouting, Patrick also participated in numerous regional and International Scouting events representing Belize and the Scout Association in the highest possible manner.  His most memorable international camp is the Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree held in 2005 when he was assistant Delegation Leader.

He was appointed District Commissioner for the Belize District in 2010 and held the post for a number of years. He then served as the National Scout Commissioner for a few years and then went back to being a District Commissioner in 2017.

He directed the 1st National Scout Jamboree in 2012 participated in level I training in 2015 and was later appointed Assistant leader trainer that same year.  Patrick received his Woodbadge training award in 2006.  In addition, he was also awarded the Chief Scout Commendation for Good Service in 2007 and the Medal of Merit in 2012 for ten years of outstanding service.

Patrick says he has not retired from Scouting but is currently not involved in the program.
