SAB’s Finance & Investment Sub-committee holds its first meeting
The newly appointed Chairman of the Finance & Investment Sub-committee of the Belize Scout Foundation (SAB) Mr. Roberto Harrison chaired his first meeting on January 11, 2023. Mr. Harrison’s commitment to have his committee active comes as no surprise as has successfully chaired numerous committees in a number of organizations in the past.
The first task on hand for the sub-committee was the review of the proposed operations budget 2023 which was looked at very closely and was approved after minor adjustments were made to it. The budget now goes to the Directors’ meeting for approval.
Other issues looked at by the sub-committee at its first meeting were ways to increase the capital fund of the Foundation to enable more funding to the Scout Association and Scout Groups, and identifying capital projects that would be beneficial for the growth of Scouting.
The most recent significant project undertaken by the Foundation is the construction of the Sir Colville N. Young building at the cost of 1.5 million dollars which is the new home of Scouting in Belize. The Foundation is now looking forward to increased membership throughout the country since membership has been at its lowest in the past few years.
Camp Oakley, the Scout Association national training and camping grounds was identified as a possible capital project in the future by the sub-committee. The refurbishing of the camping grounds and installation of new facilities would not only benefit the Scouts but the general populace as it could serve as a low-cost camping and recreational facility for Scouts, their families, and outdoor lovers.
