Steel Pan Instruments for the Scouts of Belize

April 27, 2021 was a day of happiness as we witnessed the presentation from the Embassy of China (Taiwan) of $50,000.00 to the Belize Scout Foundation for Steel Pan instruments for the Scouts of Belize.

The program got underway at 1:40 p.m. with the arrival of Dr. Rene Villanueva, Chairman of the Belize Scout Foundation followed by the arrival of His Excellency Mr. David Kuan-Chou Chien, Ambassador for the Republic of China (Taiwan).  His Excellency the Governor-General Sir Colville N. Young arrived at 2:00 p.m. and was greeted by a guard of honor mounted by the Scouts. Sir Colville was then escorted inside the proposed Sir Colville N. Young museum followed by other invited guests.

The master of ceremonies Dr. Rene Villanueva welcomed everyone and asked that they stand for the presentation of colors.  The Belize flag was the first flag to be presented followed by the flag of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and other flags from The Scout Association.

The National Anthem of Belize was played followed by the National Anthem of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The opening prayer was said by Venture Scout Dennisha Myers and the welcome address and remarks about the ceremony were delivered by Dr. Rene Villanueva.

Remarks followed by His Excellency Mr. David Kuan-Chou Chien who said how pleased the Government and people of Taiwan were in assisting with the Steel Pan Instruments.

In his remarks, Sir Colville thanked the Ambassador for the generous donation and gave a detailed history on Steel Pans.

Mr. Fernando Oliva, President of The Scout Association gave the vote of thanks and said that at the end-of-year winter ball it is expected that those in attendance including His Excellency Mr. David Kuan-Chou Chien will hopefully enjoy and experience the joy of music as well as observe the fruits of his generous donation.
